We have photographed so many portraits over the years, that we have come away with quite a few tips for portrait session makeup.  Here are just a few!

  1. Have fun and get your makeup professionally done! A professional  makeup artist will know just how to apply for photos.  Be sure and tell them that your photo session will be naturally lit!  The more information you can give them the better.  Let them know how your normally do your makeup.  Don’t over “glam” if it’s just not you!  This brings us to #2.
  2. Don’t try to look different than you do in real life!  If you don’t wear a lot of makeup, don’t feel like you need to for your senior session.  You want your session to reflect you as you are right now at this point in your life.  So what do you do if you can’t get your makeup professionally done?  Check out #3.
  3. Apply your makeup in natural window light if at all possible. This may mean applying your makeup in a room other than your bathroom but good lighting is essential to a good, even application of makeup.  We are going to photograph you in natural light, so using natural light to apply makeup is a no brainer!
  4. Play up your eyes! Avoid shimmer or glitter. We suggest matte or satin shades to bring out your beautiful eyes.
  5. Don’t wear lipstick usually??  That’s okay! A naturally colored lip is the most flattering in portraits because lip color trends change so quickly.  If you prefer lipstick choose a color that enhances your existing lip tone.
  6. What’s most important with makeup?! BE YOURSELF!
