While at a WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) conference earlier this year, I sat down next to a guy named Alan in one of my classes and we began the usual series of questions… “Where are you from?” “What do you photograph?” Alan turned out to be the founder of Magic Hour Foundation. Magic Hour Foundation describes themselves as “a national network of professional photographers who want to serve the individuals and families who are fighting cancer by providing them with the ability to celebrate the truly important things in life through photography.” They serve folks fighting cancer by connecting them with professional photographers in their area willing to bless them with images of themselves and their family.
In September, Alan contacted us about a need in central Arkansas. Kim was available for the date needed and quickly volunteered. It wasn’t until after Kim offered to do the session that we found out it was a couple… her specialty!
A few days later, Kim and I headed to Larry and Dawn’s home to do a session of them together. At their request, Kim photographed on their porch where they like to spend their days together. You would never know by Larry and Dawn’s upbeat outlook that Larry is battling cancer. They were all smiles as Kim photographed and afterward as we visited about their struggles. As the images show, they are SO in love with one another. I was especially struck by how incredibly proud they each are of each another.
Larry and Dawn, Kim and I were so blessed to able to spend time with you. We were so encouraged and challenged by the way you are choosing to live positively. We are praying for you both.
If you or someone you know could benefit from Magic Hour Foundation’s service, we encourage you to contact them through their website or on Facebook. If you’re a photographer who’s interested in serving in this way, we encourage you to apply. You’ll be blessed! If you’d like to know more about Larry’s story, check out his Facebook page.
